Volumetric activity of air ground layer and atmospheric precipitation near the Kola Nuclear Power Station

Some questions of accumulation of radionuclids in waters, springs, needles, leaves and lichenes have been considered in the paper. An estimation of KNPP's activity and its contribution to the modern ecological condition of the Murmansk region has been given.

The chalcophile elements in water and sediments of the lake Umbozero

Researches of hydrological and hydrochemical features of lakes of four river watersheds of the Bolshezemelskaya Tundra (Ortina, Neruta, Kolva and More-U) have been carried out. The oil and gas exploration and production are intensively conducted on the Bolshezemelskaya Tundra territory. According to the origin of hollows three types of lakes have been distinguished – glacial, flood-land and thermokarst. Thermokarst lakes are characterized by the minimal average values of water pH, mineralization and contents of the basic ions (except for Na+ and Cl-), and also the maximal average concentration of nutrients, organic material and almost all microelements. Contents of Fe, Cu, Mn, Al, and oil hydrocarbons in water of practically all the investigated lakes have exceeded values of maximum permissible fishery limits, that is basically connected with the development of the oil-and-gas industry in this region.

Some aspects of current state of freshwater resources in the Murmansk region

Aspects of reducing the resource potential of the surface waters of the Murmansk region in the global climate change and the environment and their irrational use have been considered. Increase of aquatic toxicity, radical restructuring of the structural and functional characteristics of aquatic communities, changes in trophic status of lakes, reducing the stability of freshwater ecosystems, increasing the risk of catastrophic degradation have been shown. Taking into account the regional peculiarities some indicators of the surface waters quality of the Murmansk region have been proposed.

Concentrations of bioavailable forms of metal compounds in bottom sediments of lakes and the enrichment factor as attributes of reservoirs' ecological situation (by the example of Murmansk region lake

Concentrations of Al, Fe, Sr, Zn, Cu and Ni bioavailable forms in bottom sediments (BS) of lakes of the Murmansk region have been studied. The investigated lakes (the Bolshoy Vudjavr, Malyi Vudjavr, Nyudjavr and the Guba Belaya of the lake Bolshaya Imandra) belong to the catchment area of the Bolshaya Imandra and are influenced by human impact. The highest percentage of bioavailable forms most of metals has been found in BS of the lake Nyudjavr. According to the enrichment factors of elements and Risk Assessment Code the most dangerous ecological situation has been defined for the lake Nyudjavr.
